Roses and Thorns

Another Rose of Versailles fanart, this time with Marie Antoinette and Countess du Barry.

This time in an AU where Marie and Oscar never made it to France and fell into a river, leading them all the way to Sweden where they laid low to protect themselves from Saint Orleans and his men. Soon Marie Antoinette meets Fersen, and they fell madly in love, but Oscar told her she was still promised to Louis of France, but then word got to Sweden that Marie Antoinette's betrothed was killed from a gun accident during his hunts (assassinated by Saint Orleans). Soon Marie reveals who she is to Fersen and his father, and due to the crisis in France and Marie Antoinette's kidnappers will still be looking for her as well as Oscar, they changed their names from Marie Antoinette and Oscar Jarjayes to lady Isabelle and her hand maiden Bridgette, soon Marie begins to learn more about politics and showed more compassion the common folk as Oscar would take her to the villages to meet with them and do charity work, making her more mature and a better leader. Eventually when Fersen returned from America, he and Marie got married and had three children, while Oscar went back to France during the Revolution and reunites with Andre.

Meanwhile in France, with Louis gone and Marie Anotinette presumed dead, the King was desperate for a new heir. Then Madame du Barry offers to bare him a child to become the new king or queen of France (as well as save herself from being sent away when he dies), so they got married as a last resort, and when Madame du Barry signed the marriage contract the pen stained it, making everyone believe it was an ominious warning for France. Problems began when she gave birth to her son and after the king's death where she increased taxes on the people for her own pleasure, and the straw that broke the camels back was the affair of the diamond necklace when she betrayed Jean in getting her a cut of the fortune. Soon the Revolution took place about ten years after that when the people demanded du Barry to stand down as queen, and for her crimes she was eventually executed along with her son.
